Welcome to the Friends of Bon Accord Baths, (FoBAB), website

Please have a look around and feel free to comment to the address on the contacts page.

First of all though we would like to tell you what we are trying to achieve.

The Bon Accord Baths is an iconic building located within Aberdeen City centre.  Due to Aberdeen City Council having to make substantial budget cuts it was deemed necessary to close the baths in 2008, (they were closed for repairs in 2007).  FoBAB are committed to re-opening the baths and running them as a “Community Hub” for the benefit of many individuals and groups of people.

We have submitted two Business Plans to Aberdeen City Council, (ACC).  The first was rejected because ACC were not convinced that we could raise the money required and because we asked for an annual contribution from them equivalent to the costs they are experiencing in mothballing the building.  The second does not ask for a contribution and our request is to simply receive their endorsement for our plan and to give us a grace period to raise the necessary money.

The Bon Accord Baths is a beautiful building in its own right, but our view is that it is worth more to the community as swimming pool than simply a pretty place to visit.

That is why our vision is:

“Bon Accord baths will be a community hub serving the needs of a wide population by providing value for money, affordable access to physical development and leisure facilities centred on water based activities.”
