History |
The beautiful art deco baths were opened by The Lord Provost Thomas Mitchell on the 30th of August 1940. As a pool hall the baths have a fantastic “wow” factor. The vaulted ceiling, delightful lines of the diving boards flanked by graceful art deco windows and the large pool all come together as a truly delightful view. The pool itself holds over a million Litres of water and provides one of the deepest “deep ends” in Scotland. There are changing facilities for separate changing facilities for men and women totalling one hundred and twenty nine cubicles. Originally the baths also provided forty hot water private bathing facilities with a large laundry for the processing of towels and linen. Most of these have now been removed to provide a gymnasium and other physical activity rooms. On the upper floor there is a Health Suite with Saunas and steam rooms including a unique plunge pool. Measuring thirty six and a half metres by twelve and a half metres the pool can comfortably accommodate one hundred and twenty five bathers. With three hundred and ninety nine spectator seats the pool has been the scene of many club galas and has been a factor in Aberdeen providing a disproportionate number of national and international swimmers.
